While Kevin Hart is “going to be just fine,” as his wife, Eniko Parrish, recently said, the Philly native will require a lengthy physical therapy program to recover from a car crash in Los Angeles early on Sunday morning.
Hart’s physical rehabilitation will last for weeks, TMZ reports, and comes following what doctors said was a successful back surgery on Sunday night. The comic actor will also reportedly have a substantial schedule of follow-up appointments with doctors. A source told the publication that he should be released from the hospital by the end of this week.
“He’s good,” wife Eniko said on Monday outside Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where Hart, 40, was taken following the crash, Deadline reports. “Everybody’s good, thank god.”
Hart reportedly suffered a serious back injury just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning after his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, in which the comic actor was a passenger, careened off the road and rolled into an embankment on Mulholland Highway in Los Angeles. Hart reportedly left the scene to get help and was later taken to a nearby hospital.
Driver Jared Black, 28, was also injured in the crash, and received an airlift to UCLA Medical Center as a result of the incident, according to Deadline. Alcohol was reportedly not at play in the crash, though TMZ indicates that police are considering excessive speed as a factor.
A third passenger, Rebecca Broxterman, 31, was reportedly not seriously injured in the wreck.
As Hart wrote on Instagram back in July, the vehicle, which was totaled in the crash, was a 40th birthday gift to himself, and was named “Menace."
After news of the crash spread earlier this week, friends and co-stars of Hart’s reached out with well-wishes on social media.
“Let’s all send him positive energy and healing thoughts,” actor Bryan Cranston, who stars alongside Hart in the Philly-filmed movie The Upside, wrote on social media. “He’s a good human. Get well soon, brother.”
