Five things to know about Eagles second-round pick Andrew Mukuba

After drafting Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the 31st pick in the draft, the Eagles continued to add to their defense by drafting Texas safety Andrew Mukuba at No. 64. Here are five things you need to know about the player…

1. His Clemson connections

Before transferring to Texas in 2023, Mukuba played his first three collegiate seasons at Clemson, where he was on the same team as Will Shipley and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. During that time, he was named ACC defensive rookie of the year.

2. His Zimbabwe roots

Mukuba was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, before immigrating to Austin, Texas with his family. The four-star recruit attended Lyndon B. Johnson High School as a two-sport athlete in track and field and football, with offers from LSU and Texas.

3. His 'nothing is given to me' mentality

In DCTF, he discussed growing up in Harare. “There was a time when we would go two or three nights, maybe a whole week without electricity…That’s when I learned, at a really young age, that nothing is given to me — I have to go earn it."

4. Running back to receiver to DB

Before attending a camp at the University of Texas where he found his calling as a defensive back, Mukuba first started playing as a running back in the fifth grade. Eventually in high school, he transitioned to wide receiver.

5. “Mukuba Bowl”

During the first round of the College Football Playoff, Mukuba’s Texas Longhorns matched up against his former team, the Clemson Tigers. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney dubbed the game “Mukuba Bowl.” Texas ended the game victorious, 38-24.
