Jalen Hurts to attend practice today

Jalen Hurts is slated to be at Eagles practice today, Nick Sirianni confirmed to reporters.

It’s a notable step forward as the quarterback works his way out of concussion protocol and prepares to start in Sunday’s first round playoff game against the Green Bay Packers.

After suffering the concussion against the Washington Commanders on Dec. 22, Hurts has missed all of the Eagles’ practices and each of the last two games.

Jordan Love attends practice, but his health is unclear

A few days after injuring his right elbow in the season finale against the Chicago Bears, Packers quarterback Jordan Love was reportedly present at practice on Wednesday.

Love took part in warmups, which was the only session of practice open to the local media. It is unclear if he was able to participate in individual drills and use his throwing arm.

The 26-year-old quarterback went down in the second quarter when he took a hit in the pocket from Bears defensive end Austin Booker while attempting a pass. He did not return to action, but after the game, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Love was held out for precautionary reasons and that he would’ve been “good to go” back into the game if needed.

Eagles open practice window for Byron Young

The Eagles opened the 21-day practice window for defensive tackle Byron Young, who was placed on injured reserve in October with a hamstring injury.

Young has not yet played for the Eagles, who claimed Young off waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders in late August.

Eagles sign former first-round pick Lewis Cine

The Philadelphia Bulldogs have another member.

The Eagles signed defensive back Lewis Cine to their active roster Wednesday, poaching the 2022 first-round pick off the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills.

Cine joins some familiar Georgia Bulldog faces in Philadelphia. Cine was selected 32nd overall in 2022 by the Minnesota Vikings after playing safety at the University of Georgia. The Eagles have five other former Bulldogs on defense: Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Kelee Ringo, and Nolan Smith.

Could Bill Belichick be heading back to the NFL?

Multiple teams, including the Las Vegas Raiders, have made inquiries about whether Belichick would be open to returning to the NFL instead of coaching the University of North Carolina, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Belichick agreed to a five-year deal with North Carolina, but his contract includes a $10-million buyout if he leaves prior to June 1, Pelissero reported, though it’s unclear if it would apply if he returns to the NFL.

Raiders minority owner Tom Brady, who will be calling Eagles-Packers on Fox Sunday, reportedly spoke with Belichick about the Raiders' coaching job. The two obviously have some history together.

Eagles and Packers will be playing in Green Bay weather

Weather in South Philly evidently won’t be much of a player Sunday when the Eagles host the Green Bay Packers.

No precipitation is expected, and any snow that falls early Saturday should be easy to remove. Temperatures during the game are forecast to be around freezing or a little below, with light winds as the daytime gusts back off after sunset, which will be about 20 minutes after kickoff. In fact, the temperatures and winds won’t be much different from the conditions in Green Bay Sunday evening (although it might be snowing there).

If the Los Angeles Rams or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were coming to town it might be a different story, but in this instance, the Eagles, won’t have a “weather advantage,” said Eric Hoeflich, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Mount Holly.

Saquon Barkley and Jalen Carter were named to the third annual Players’ All-Pro Team on Wednesday.

Twenty-nine players were named to the roster — 11 offensive players, 11 defensive players, and seven special teams players.

What is going on in Dallas?

The Dallas Cowboys are not in the playoffs, but they’re still making headlines.

The latest drama involves Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, whose contract reportedly expires on Jan. 14.

It’s unclear if there have been serious talks between McCarthy and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about his contract extension — as of last week there weren’t, according to NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Saquon Barkley’s fashion diary

Hours before Saquon Barkley dazzled in his Eagles debut against the Green Bay Packers, he had already made a statement in the spotlight without saying a word.

It happened when he stepped out of the hotel in São Paulo, Brazil, on his way to board the bus to Corinthians Arena for the Eagles’ season opener. In a sea of sweatsuit-clad teammates, Barkley stood out with a carefully curated outfit consisting of hot pink Chrome Hearts jeans, a vintage Led Zeppelin band tee, white Nike Air Force 1s, and a supersized Hermès Birkin bag that could practically fit all the balls from the 15 touchdowns he was on the cusp of producing this season.

Barkley doesn’t take time to toil over his outfits. He would rather spend his spare moments poring over film. That’s why he relies on Joshua McPhearson, his stylist, to set the tone from head to toe before he takes the field.

Sirianni to speak to reporters as Eagles return to practice field

Sirianni is scheduled to speak at noon, while the Eagles will practice at Lincoln Financial Field at 3:30 p.m. All eyes will be on Jalen Hurts, who is slated to be at practice, a sign he's progressing through the NFL's concussion protocol.

Eagles waive backup quarterback

The Eagles waived backup quarterback Ian Book late Tuesday afternoon, a sign Jalen Hurts could be preparing to return to the field.

The former Notre Dame quarterback was signed by the Eagles on Dec. 26 and was on the roster for the team's final two games, though he never made it onto the field.

Will Jalen Hurts play on Sunday?

The Eagles return to the practice field Wednesday when more will be known about the status of Jalen Hurts, who has not practiced in any capacity since suffering a concussion in Week 16 against the Washington Commanders.

Hurts is slated to attend today's practice, according to the Inquirer's Jeff McLane.

The Eagles have been tight-lipped about the situation. Coach Nick Sirianni has repeatedly said that Hurts is “progressing through the protocol” but would not say Monday whether Hurts was in the facility that day nor provide insight on Hurts’ status when asked how he was game-planning this week as it relates to the status of his starting quarterback.

Tell us what you really think, Ron Jaworski.

The former Eagles quarterback and NBC Sports Philadelphia personality is really, really confident the Birds will defeat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the opening round of the playoffs.

"I just see no way the Packers beat the Eagles," Jaworski said on 94.1 WIP's morning show Tuesday.

Interview requests coming in for Eagles' offensive coordinator

Two days after the regular season ended has yielded at least two head-coaching interview requests for Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

The New Orleans Saints will, according to NFL Network, interview Moore to be their next coach, and shortly before Moore met with reporters Tuesday the Jacksonville Jaguars released a list of eight candidates that included Moore.

“You don’t worry about it too much,” the 36-year-old Moore said. “Really the focus is on the week and those things take care of their self. Obviously those things only come to teams who usually tend to have success and are doing things well on the field. So that’s where your focus is.”
