Jeffrey Lurie says he doesn't want to buy Celtics, but ...

NEW ORLEANS — Jeffrey Lurie, Celtics owner?

Bill Simmons reported last week that the Eagles' owner was in the running to buy the Boston Celtcs, Lurie's hometown team.

On Opening Night at the Super Bowl, Lurie was asked about his interest.

Sirianni praises Big Dom: 'We all love him'

When the Eagles entered the Superdome on Monday night, they were led out of the tunnel by the four horseman of the organization: owner Jeffrey Lurie, general manager Howie Roseman, head coach Nick Sirianni, and security chief "Big Dom" DiSandro.

For some, it may seem strange that DiSandro is out there, literally at the right hand of the team owner, but that's not all that surprising in Philadelphia, where he's become an almost mythical figure with a cult-like status.

During Super Bowl LIX Opening Night on Monday, Nick Sirianni spoke about what makes DiSandro so special.

Jeffrey Lurie says no thanks to 2026 Australia game. Here's why.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie poured some cold water on rumors about his team playing in Australia Monday night.

Addressing a report that surfaced over the weekend that the Eagles would play the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne during the 2026 season, Lurie called the potential international matchup an "impossibility" because the Eagles would have to give up one of their home games for it to happen.

The report originated from The Herald Sun in Australia, which named the Eagles as the "likely" opponent for the Rams in a matchup originally scheduled to take place at Lincoln Financial Field.

Jeffrey Lurie declines to address Nick Sirianni's contract status; denies interest in buying Celtics

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie declined to talk about head coach Nick Sirianni’s contract situation as he heads into the final year of a five-year deal. Lurie praised his coach at Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday.

Asked about Sirianni’s outward emotion, he said: “It’s one of his strengths and it’s one of his weaknesses.”

As for Lurie’s reported interest in purchasing the Boston Celtics, a team he adored as a youth and still supports, he said he wasn’t interested at this time, but never say never.

Early highlights: Jalen Hurts gets a mixtape from Guillermo; Dallas Goedert loves some crawfish

Super Bowl LIX Opening Night is underway inside the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, and so is the silliness.

From a fan asking Jalen Hurts how he can be more handsome (like Hurts) to Guillermo (from Jimmy Kimmel Live!) handing the Eagles quarterback a rap mixtape.

Meanwhile, tight end Dallas Goedert talked about getting some of the local New Orleans cuisine shortly after his arrival.

Myles Garrett requested a trade. Are the Eagles a fit?

Myles Garrett wants out of Cleveland. The 29-year-old defensive end wants to win. Could the Eagles be a realistic trade partner for the Browns?

The Eagles will soon have a need for elite edge-rushing talent. Josh Sweat, 27, is set to become a free agent in 2025 and will likely garner a hefty payday after leading the Eagles in sacks this season. Brandon Graham, 36, could call it a career after the Super Bowl.

That leaves three edge rushers currently on the 53-man roster under contract for next season: Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, and Bryce Huff. Smith figures to continue to play a prominent role in the Eagles’ edge-rusher rotation after his breakout season in 2024, while Hunt has shown flashes of potential in his rookie year. Huff, whom the Eagles signed to a three-year, $51.1 million deal in the offseason, fell short of expectations in his first season with the Eagles, struggling to find the field since returning from wrist surgery in mid November.

Cooper Kupp says the Rams are looking to trade him

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, the Super Bowl LVI MVP and 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, posted on X Monday evening that the Rams are "seeking a trade immediately," a move Kupp says he disagrees with.

"I was informed that the team will be seeking a trade immediately and will be working with me and my family to find the right place to continue competing for championships. I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA.

"Still, if there’s one thing that I have learned over the years: there are so many things that are out of your control, but it is how you respond to these things that you will look back on and remember.

Why the turf won't be a problem in this Super Bowl

After Super Bowl LVII, the turf was one of the biggest topics of conversation — for all the wrong reasons.

The Eagles slipped and slid across the grass and two Chiefs went down with injuries that head coach Andy Reid later blamed on the field conditions.

“I’m not going to lie — this is the worst field I’ve ever played on,” Haason Reddick said following the Eagles’ 38-35 loss to the Chiefs.

Jalen Hurts featured in Jordan Brand commercial

Jalen Hurts' sweatshirt coming off the plane during the Eagles' arrival to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX makes sense.

In the Jordan Brand's latest commercial titled "You Can't Ban Greatness," they reimagine Air Jordan's trajectory had Nike not paid Michael Jordan's fines from the NBA for violating the NBA's dress code in 1985.

To celebrate 40 years of the brand, the commercial takes a look at what would have happened had Nike not paid the fines, from the Air Jordan's being a massive failure to no more signature shoes. The commercial even goes as far to say there would be no sneaker heads, international players, and no sports channels, where Hurts makes an appearance, throwing a TV remote behind him.

Roger Goodell addresses conspiracy theory

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell dismissed the idea the league’s officials favor the Kansas City Chiefs, a conspiracy theory that has spread like wildfire on social media this season.

"It’s a ridiculous theory for anyone who might take it seriously,” Goodell said during a news conference in New Orleans Monday.

Goodell said the conspiracy theory reminded him of claims the NFL has a script or the outcomes are predetermined. One such theory points to the Chiefs and Eagles in the Super Bowl, because the logo happens to incorporate both team’s colors.

Two peas in a pod

Eagles' Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean have formed a rare combination among NFL defensive backs.

And besides their impact on the field, the two also formed a friendship away from the field. They’d go golfing together, and Blankenship introduced the rookie to a few restaurants in town.

Now, they'll keep leaning into the unusual spot they are in at the Super Bowl.

'Tayvoodoo' at the Linc, thanks to troll billboard

There are a lot of different storylines fans can focus on ahead of Super Bowl LIX. Can the Eagles get revenge over the Kansas City Chiefs after losing to them two years ago on the same stage? Can Saquon Barkley be exactly what the Eagles needed to push them over the top? Or of course, can the Chiefs make history and three-peat?

But another side storyline that fans should keep an eye on: Is Tayvoodoo real? As of Monday morning, a “Tayvoodoo is real” billboard can be seen near Lincoln Financial Field with one goal in mind. To troll Eagles fans ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

A Boston-based marketing executive, and lifelong Taylor Swift fan, Jake Duhaime partnered with TastyClean to place the billboard in Philadelphia. But what exactly is Tayvoodoo?

ESPN: Kellen Moore will become the Saints' head coach 'barring a setback'

It's looking more and more likely Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore won't be traveling back to Philly after the Super Bowl.

Moore is the frontrunner to land the vacant New Orleans Saints head coaching job. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show Monday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said the job is all but his.

"Could it break down and they not reach an agreement? Sure. Is that likely? No," Schefter said. "Barring a setback, he is going to be the guy."

Sielski: Remembering the great Super Bowl blackout of 2013

It’s a safe bet that those of us who covered the last Super Bowl here — Ravens 34, 49ers 31 in Big Roman Numerals Game XLVII — can’t help but think back to that night as we cover the runup to Eagles-Chiefs Part II.

On Feb. 3, 2013, what was shaping up to be a boring Baltimore blowout of San Francisco got strange and scary in a hurry when — with 13 minutes, 22 seconds left in the third quarter, with the Ravens up 28-6, not long after Beyonce had finished her halftime concert — the power in the Superdome went out.

I was one of several reporters covering the game for The Wall Street Journal; Jeff McLane was here for The Inquirer. And the prevailing fear, as everything went dark in the Dome, was that something sinister was afoot.

New Eagles mini-mural going up on South Broad Street

As every corner in the city decks up in kelly green, Mural Arts Philadelphia is making sure South Broad Street gets its own Eagles mural, in time for the Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl matchup.

The hands behind the mural titled Go Birds! is local artist Tiff Urquhart, who also painted the Eagles Gameday Poster in September when the Eagles played the first NFL game in South America, defeating the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil.

The temporary mini-mural will depict a multicolored bald eagle perched on a green football.

Hayes: Specter of injury hanging over several Eagles players

The Eagles are pretty healthy, and might be getting healthier if defensive end Brandon Graham returns from his triceps injury.

That said, they have the specter of injury hanging over a handful of critically important players.

Here are the most concerning:

  1. Cam Jurgens' back, Landon Dickerson’s knee. These are the sorts of injuries that can be aggravated during a week of practice or on any given play in a game. Jurgens is a Pro Bowl center. His backup is Dickerson, a Pro Bowl guard. The Eagles can afford to lose one of them. They cannot afford to lose both.

  2. Kenneth Gainwell’s concussion and knee. Gainwell has become one of the NFL’s better third-down backs in his four seasons. He is integral not only because he giver Saquon Barkley a rest, but also because he’s option No. 1 in the two-minute offense. Rookie back Will Shipley is a fine understudy, and without Shipley, Gainwell would be the number one concern.

  3. DeVonta Smith’s hamstring. This issue has nagged Smith all season. It’s probably not alarming that it’s back, considering where we are in the year, and he tends to be productive when he returns from an absence, or even a rest, but still …

  4. A.J. Brown’s knee. He had knee trouble late last year, and he has had knee trouble for the past few weeks. He looked great in the NFC championship game, but you never know.

  5. Jalen Hurts’ knee. Like Brown, Hurts seemed to show no evidence of an issue in last week’s title win, but the Commanders didn’t exactly get after the quarterback. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuola’s blitzes will be designed to flush Hertz whichever way Spags believes the knee will compromise him most. If the knee is sound, it’s not a problem. If it is not sound, it can be the difference in the game.

  6. Darius Slay’s … whatever. I mean, it seems like these days he gets hurt getting off the couch.

Ahead of Super Bowl craziness, a little taste of New Orleans

Good morning from the (sunny and warm) Big Easy, where Super Bowl week is officially underway. The Eagles and Chiefs arrived here Sunday afternoon, and the hoopla begins today.

Roger Goodell will have his annual Super Bowl press conference this afternoon at 4 p.m., and later is the Opening Night media festivities. We’ll get our first look inside the Caesars Superdome, where players and coaches from both teams will answer questions from reporters that will surely run the gamut from normal to unusual.

The Inquirer has arrived to New Orleans, too, and the calm before the storm meant there was some time to enjoy a little taste of New Orleans. For any Eagles fans heading to New Orleans this week and looking for lunch, you can’t go wrong at Cochon Butcher in the Warehouse District, which is walkable from fan-friendly Super Bowl Experience, which opens Wednesday at the convention center.

Saquon Barkley engaged to longtime girlfriend

It turns out a birthday won’t be the only thing Saquon Barkley will have to celebrate this weekend. According to People, the Eagles running back recently got engaged to his longtime girlfriend and fellow Penn State grad Anna Congdon.

"I can't be the athlete I am and have the success I have so in my career without the help of her," Barkley told People. "She's been super helpful and always has my back, not only in football but throughout life there's a lot that goes on. But as we continue to grow and mature and go through life together, we continue getting closer and continue to get even better."

Congdon can often be seen on the sidelines at Eagles games, along with her and Barkley’s two children, Jada, 6, and Saquon Jr., 2. — even though Jada’s pregame handshake with her father typically steals the show.

Eagles 'likely' to play in first NFL game in Australia: report

Are the Birds headed down under?

The Herald Sun newspaper in Australia reports Melbourne will host an NFL regular-season game in October 2026 featuring the Los Angeles Rams, and that the Eagles will be their “likely” opponent.

The game is set to be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which can hold 100,000 people, the Herald reported, adding Australia is set to host up to the regular-season NFL games over several years.

Eagles will face ex-head coach Chip Kelly next season

Eagles fans don't have fond memories of former head coach Chip Kelly, and they'll be able to remind him of that next season.

Kelly, who spent the past season as the offensive coordinator at Ohio State, is headed to Las Vegas to run the Raiders' offensive under head coach Pete Carroll, according to multiple reports.

While the 2025 NFL schedule won't be released until May, the Eagles will host the Raiders at the Linc next season.

Can the Chiefs stop Saquon Barkley and the Eagles’ run game?

Pretty much each week since the Eagles’ early-season bye, Saquon Barkley & Co. have asked this question to opposing defenses without very many answers. Even against some of the league’s best rushing defenses, the Eagles have found ways to remain productive, consistent, and explosive through the running game. The latter is the most important, especially considering how infrequently the Eagles have taken shots downfield at times this season, instead relying on Barkley’s ability to break off long runs to maintain an explosive offense.

The Eagles have also proved throughout the playoffs that stopping the run isn’t as simple as loading the box. According to Next Gen Stats, roughly a third of Barkley’s rushing attempts have come with eight or more defenders inside the tackle box this postseason, but he has managed to break off big runs despite the crowd at the line of scrimmage in part because of how few tacklers are left on the second and third levels of the defense if the offensive line sorts out the traffic up front.

Bring on the Chiefs, who finished the regular season ranked eighth in rushing yards per attempt allowed. Even that doesn’t tell the full story, though. Kansas City has given up 130 or more rushing yards in five of their last six games. And while the Chiefs haven’t allowed a running back to go over 100 yards individually this season, they have shown susceptibility to quarterback-inclusive run games recently, conceding 149 to the Houston Texans in the divisional round and 147 to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday with C.J. Stroud and Josh Allen each helping to carry the load.

Eagles' Super Bowl schedule begins with opening night

Super Bowl week is finally here, and we’re just seven days from seeing the Eagles take the field at the Superdome against the Kansas City Chiefs.

This week, the Eagles will be practicing at the New Orleans Saints' facility, while the Chiefs will practice at Tulane's team facilities.

Monday is opening night, where coaches and players are asked a mix of serious questions from journalists and off-the-wall ridiculousness by in-disguise people with press credentials. The event will air on NFL Network beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Chiefs bar in Philly to close during Super Bowl

Big Charlie’s Saloon in South Philly has been a welcome spot for diehard Kansas City Chiefs fans since the 1980. But come Sunday, Chiefs fans in the city will have to watch the Super Bowl elsewhere.

Big Charlie's made a similar decision in 2023, closing its doors when the Eagles and Chiefs faced off that. The issue then was too much demand — owner Paul Staico didn't have space to accommodate everyone and didn't want to turn anyone down.
