Carter Hart pleads not guilty at Hockey Canada sexual assault trial
Hart, Dillon Dubé, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton were all in court Tuesday for the first day of their trial.

LONDON, Ontario (AP) — Former Flyers goaltender Carter Hart was one of five members of Canada’s 2018 World Junior hockey team who pleaded not guilty Tuesday, and the jurors who will hear their sexual assault case were selected.
Hart, Dillon Dubé, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton were charged with sexual assault in February 2024 for an incident that allegedly took place on June 19, 2018, following a Hockey Canada gala celebrating their gold medal from that year’s World Junior Championships.

According to court documents, a woman alleges that she was sexually assaulted in a London hotel room that night by eight members of the team after meeting some of the players at a local bar earlier in the night.
McLeod is facing an additional charge of being a party to the offense of sexual assault.
The players, all dressed in dark suits, entered their pleas one by one in a packed London courtroom as jury selection began Tuesday morning. None is on an NHL roster or has an active contract with a team in the league.
By the end of the day, 14 jurors and two alternates were chosen.
The trial is expected to begin on Wednesday and last about eight weeks.
