Five things to know about new Flyer Trevor Zegras and his video-game moves

by Gabriela Carroll

The Flyers have made their first big move of the offseason, trading for Trevor Zegras from the Anaheim Ducks. Here are five things to know about the 24-year-old center before he suits up for the Orange and Black this fall ...

1. He’s famous for his trick plays

Zegras went mega-viral for a lacrosse-style flip pass to Sonny Milano in 2021. Everyone from hockey fans to celebrities took notice.

2. He was on the cover of 'NHL 23'

Since he’s well-known for his video-game moves, it makes complete sense that Zegras would grace the cover of NHL 23 — alongside Canadian professional ice hockey player Sarah Nurse. The game even added his flip pass as a playable move.

3. He’s friends with Jamie Drysdale and Cam York

During their time in Anaheim, Zegras and Drysdale were roommates and close friends. York, who is from Southern California, also hosted Zegras for a year, and the two are close friends from their time playing together with Team USA.

4. Zegras won World Junior gold with USA Hockey

Zegras, York, and Bobby Brink were a part of the team that won gold in 2021 at the World Juniors. Zegras led the team in scoring with 18 points and won tournament MVP.

5. He’s a center — but where will he fit it?

Could Zegras be the top-six center the Flyers have been looking for? He hasn’t consistently hit the scoring levels his skill would suggest in Anaheim, but on a team with a dearth of center options, he should get plenty of minutes.
