Dry air hampers our ability to defend against viruses

Dry air thickens mucus in the airways, impairing its ability to clear viruses before they cause infection. Yale University scientists showed this by taking videos of the trachea (windpipe) in two groups of mice, one that spent a week at 50% relative humidity, the other at 10%. Particles moved much more slowly in the 10% group.
