Gun fired inside Fashion District in Center City
Police reported no victims after a single shot was fired inside the mall on the street level.
The Fashion District was placed on lockdown after someone fired a gun inside the Center City mall Tuesday evening, police said.
A suspect was in custody and no shooting injuries were reported, police said.
The gunfire occurred around 6:30 p.m. on the street-level first floor of the mall, and the management of the Fashion District placed the mall on lockdown soon afterward. Police located a spent shell casing and fully loaded magazine inside the mall near Ninth and Market Streets.
The suspect was taken into custody nearby on North 10th Street in Chinatown, police said.
Capt. John Walker said later Tuesday night that investigators determined that the shooter was with someone else when he entered the mall from Ninth Street and fired a gun at two individuals who had entered from Market Street.
The bullet struck a pillar and a piece of debris hit a man, who later refused medical treatment, Walker said.
Police said the mall was about to close for the night, so the lockdown was not lifted.
Meanwhile, four men were injured in two separate shootings elsewhere in the city, police said.
Just before 7:50 p.m., two men, ages 28 and 27, were outside in the area of Fifth Street and Lindley Avenue in Olney when the older man was shot and the second man was wounded by broken glass.
The older victim drove himself and the younger man to Einstein Medical Center, where they were both listed in stable condition, police said.
A gun was taken for evidence from the 28-year-old man, who has a permit to carry a concealed firearm, police said.
And just before 5:30 p.m., two men, ages 21 and 20, were outside on the 1500 block of South 28th Street in Grays Ferry when they were shot.
Both men were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The 20-year-old was listed in critical condition. The 21-year-old was in stable condition.
As of Monday, there had been 1,343 nonfatal shooting victims and 358 fatal shootings so far this year, according to the Philadelphia Controller’s Office.
