Growing up in an 1860s home gave Collin Phelan a love of architecture.

His wife, Dani, an artist and illustrator, loves putting her own stamp on interiors.

So the three-bedroom, 3½-bathroom home in a converted stone schoolhouse with a large addition in Glenmoore, Chester County, was perfect for both of them.

The fact that it needed a good bit of work was a selling point. Collin particularly liked redoing the landscaping.

“People who come here experience different periods of time,” Collin said. The original schoolhouse was built in 1867.

The Phelans bought the home in 2023, moving from another vintage home West Chester.

But now, with a third child on the way, they are uprooting to Utah, playing to Collin’s love for the mountains and skiing.

With the addition, built by the previous owners in the 1990s, the house has 4,274 square feet of living space.

The Phelans also own an adjacent 2.14-acre lot, which is also for sale separately from the schoolhouse property.

The first floor of the Phelans’ home contains the living room, kitchen, an office, and a sunroom.

The kitchen has high-end appliances, cherry wood countertops, and custom cabinetry. The sunroom has large European turn-and-tilt windows to let in maximum light.

The second story has the bedrooms and a loft, used as a playroom. The primary suite sits above a canopy of trees with views of both sunrise and moonrise.

The landscaping was redone in the front and back last fall, with a new berm and perennial plantings, walking trails, a firepit, and inground lighting.

The house is three miles north of Marsh Creek State Park, with boating, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking.

It is in the Downingtown School District.

The house is listed by Marie Gordon of Compass Realty for $950,000.
