For $4,800, Philadelphians could make two mortgage payments ... or pay for one ‘cheap’ ticket to the Super Bowl
The median mortgage payment for recent homebuyers in the Kansas City metro is lower than in the Philadelphia metro, according to a Zillow report.

How much is it worth to watch the Eagles play in the Super Bowl in person? A Zillow analysis found that a “cheap” ticket costs more than the typical mortgage payment for a recent homebuyer in 46 of the 50 largest U.S. metropolitan areas, including Philadelphia.
The cheapest Super Bowl ticket that Zillow found on four resale sites on Jan. 22 cost $4,800. That’s more than 2½ times the typical monthly mortgage payment in the Philadelphia area, according to Zillow’s analysis of median home values.

According to the reseller TickPick, the cheapest ticket price for a seat in New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome had dropped to around $3,600 on the secondary market as of Wednesday morning. But that’s still about twice the cost of the roughly $1,870 median mortgage payment in the Philadelphia region in December.
The average Super Bowl ticket price was about $6,900 as of Wednesday morning, according to TickPick. Tickets were more expensive last year. The average price then was about $9,200.

Zillow calculated mortgage payments by using median home values, taking the average mortgage rate and assuming a 20% down payment, the amount the median mortgage buyer put down in 2024, according to a Zillow report.
The Kansas City area beats the Philadelphia area in terms of mortgage costs. In the Missouri metro, the cheapest Super Bowl ticket in mid-January cost more than three times the median mortgage payment of roughly $1,544.
A typical Pittsburgh homeowner could cover their monthly mortgage payment 4½ times over with the cost of a “cheap” $4,800 ticket. The median monthly payment there in December was roughly $1,075. That’s the least expensive monthly payment in the 50 largest metropolitan areas.
On the other end of the spectrum, a “cheap” Super Bowl ticket cost less than a median monthly mortgage payment in the metro areas of San Jose, Calif., and San Francisco. It cost about the same as a median mortgage payment in Los Angeles and San Diego. In the San Jose area, the median monthly mortgage payment in December was $8,205.
