Sixers-Pistons takeaways: Paul George lacks of aggression and a lackluster start
DETROIT – Paul George must get more involved on the offensive end. The 76ers can’t afford to come out lackluster, and Eric Gordon needs to play more minutes. Those three things stood out Friday night’s 125-112 setback to the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena.

More aggression from George
George finished with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting — including making 2 of 3 three-pointers. However, he didn’t attempt his first shot until 7:17 was left in the first quarter. George only had two shot attempts in the first quarter.

George and the Sixers must find a way to get him more involved early on. George came to Philly to form a Big Three with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. But far too often he’s been a role player paired alongside a Big Two.

Lackluster start

The Sixers couldn’t match the Pistons’ energy at the start of the game. They were dominated in every aspect of the game. It was like they took Detroit lightly because All-Star point guard Cade Cunningham was sidelined.

The Sixers had to know that Pistons forward Tobias Harris would come out on fire against his former team. They also had to know that guard Malik Beasley would test their perimeter defense. And that Detroit’s post players would be physical from the start. The Sixers got caught slipping.

Gordon needs more minutes
On the surface, it's easy to argue that Nick Nurse was right to just play Gordon 10:21. The guard was held scoreless on 0-for-4 shooting and finished with three turnovers. But Gordon is a rhythm player who performs when given minutes.

He usually struggles when playing in short stints on the floor and has the fear of being subbed out after a mistake. The Sixers need to make sure he gets rolling early. If not, he’s not able to make any type of impact.
