Sixers trade Reggie Jackson, first-round pick to Washington Wizards for Jared Butler
The Sixers are also expected to receive four second-round picks in the deal that ships out a player offered a veteran presence and backcourt depth.

The 76ers filled a need at backup point guard. And in the process they acquired someone they coveted since the 2021 NBA draft.
On Thursday, the Sixers agreed to acquire two-way player Jared Butler and four second-round picks from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Reggie Jackson and a 2026 first-round pick, according to sources. To create a roster spot, a source said the Sixers waived two-way post player Pete Nance.

The Sixers will receive the more favorable 2027 second-round pick between the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns. They’ll also nab the Warriors’ 2028 second-rounder, the Wizards’ 2030 second-rounder, and the more favorable pick in 2030 between the Suns and Portland Trail Blazers.
Butler averaged 6.9 points and 2.6 assists in 11.3 minutes in 32 games off the bench this season for the Wizards. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder is a good passer and solid shooter. The Louisiana native helped lead Baylor to the 2021 NCAA championship and was named Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four.
The New Orleans Pelicans selected him with the 40th pick in the 2021 NBA draft and traded him to the Utah Jazz a week later. Sources say the Sixers have been impressed with Butler’s competitive spirit. There’s a sense that he can make the game easier for teammates.
In four combined seasons with the Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder and Wizards, he averaged 5.6 points and 2.3 assists in 11.4 minutes in 120 games, with two starts. Butler will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
The Sixers signed Jackson to a one-year, veteran-minimum salary contract in the summer. The 34-year-old averaged 4.4 points and 1.5 assists in 31 games.
