Union president encourages workers at separate press conference

American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees national president Lee Saunders has arrived at the AFSCME District Council 33 press conference in Port Richmond at the site where two striking workers were struck by a vehicle last week. “All of you are a part of that big family,” Saunders said to a crowd of striking workers. The union has more than 1 million members nationwide. “You’re trying to make a decent living with good benefits and good pay, while you are providing essential services to the citizens of Philadelphia,” Saunders said. “You are the everyday heroes, and everyday heroes must be treated with respect and dignity — and that means money.”
