Spread Bagelry to open a shop at Fifth and South Streets
It's one of several new locations on the way this year.

Spread Bagelry, the Montreal-style bagel shop near Rittenhouse Square and with a branch at 36th and Chestnut Streets, has signed a lease for the former Johnny Rockets location at Fifth and South Streets.
It’s part of an expansion plan that will see other locations, including a flagship (dubbed the Spreadquarters) at 2401 Walnut St. and 925 Lancaster Ave. in Bryn Mawr Village shopping center.
Founder Larry Rosenblum hopes to open in the fall. Spread will join a new-ish Federal Donuts at Sixth and South Streets.
Montreal-style bagels, baked in wood-fired ovens after taking a bath in honey water, typically are lighter and crunchier than New York bagels.
