Jansen, opening this spring, will take the stone building formerly known as Avenida and Cresheim Cottage Cafe (7402 Germantown Ave.).

David Jansen, who was the landmark's chef de cuisine when he left at the end of 2010 after more than two decades to devote more time to his three kids, is opening a restaurant in Mount Airy
Jansen describes Jansen's style as "upscale American contemporary with world influences." Though the dining room will be white tablecloth all the way, he emphasizes that the atmosphere will not be stuffy or pretentious.
"And not overly priced," he said.
What sold Jansen on the location was the outdoor setup, which backs up to the New Covenant Church. Before the cold weather set in, he and Morrissey Design prepped it for the spring. In addition to installing new landscaping, Jansen plans to grow herbs back there, and eventually more.
He and his Four Seasons mates were adherents of the farm-to-table philosophy long before everyone started doing it.
