East Passyunk’s Summer Swigs, a new Wednesday happy hour, to deliver food, drink and retail specials
Summer Swigs brings vibes and happy hour specials to East Passyunk, with plans to evolve into a year-round event, including markets and music festivals.
Familiar with Center City SIPS? East Passyunk is bringing its own avenue-wide weekly summer happy hour special to the neighborhood, almost like a cool older cousin.
“A lot of people that live in the neighborhood are young families that like to shop and go out to restaurants along the avenue,” said Rebecca O’Leary, director of the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District. “We have fun hanging out on the sidewalks and playing games, it’s so community oriented and it’s relaxing fun.”
Every Wednesday through the end of summer, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., restaurants on East Passyunk Avenue will rotate as hosts of a Summer Swigs happy hour, featuring unique food and drink discounts.
This is the first avenue-wide happy hour, which O’Leary says will later evolve into a year-round weekly happy hour and specials night, with additional events like farmer’s markets and the upcoming September music festival.
On top of the food and drink specials, retail shops and other businesses will be offering deals like a free class or workout from Sweat Fitness and half-off flowers from Creations by Coppola’s stem bar. Additionally, every Wednesday in the summer and fall there’s the farmer’s market from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the corner of East Passyunk Ave. and Dickinson St.
Summer Swigs happy hours
Each Wednesday, a local restaurant plays host with different specials, though chef Nicholas Elmi’s Laurel will be a weekly mainstay from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with $2 oysters, $6 wines, $6 beers, and $12 cocktails each week of August.
